HOMAGE TO BERLIN

For the opening of the 3rd Doxumentale, Barbara Sotelsek created and performed a poetic and

cinematic homage to Berlin, tracing the changing history of Potsdamer Platz.

Drawing on literary works by Paul Boldt, Franz Kafka and Erich Kästner, the performance

combined spoken text with historical footage and excerpts from films by Walter Ruttmann, Kurt

Krigar and Wim Wenders.

Exploring Berlin as a city shaped by political upheaval, destruction, memory and constant

reinvention, the performance brought together texts, archival imagery and live performance to reflect on the relationship between urban history and collective memory.

Presented on 27 May 2026 at the Atrium Tower on Potsdamer Platz, the work opened the third

edition of the international documentary festival Doxumentale.
